So really it was the the flexibility and creativity of the program and the ability to build my degree plan around my individual interests. I've always had a passion for art in addition to engineering. So for me, multidisciplinary gave me this really cool and unique opportunity to incorporate it into my degree by focusing my coursework on product design and development. So being able to pick the classes that I wanted to take while still having this strong engineering base, kind of gave me more confidence in what I'm doing now in school and what I'm working towards moving forward in my engineering career. Howdy, I'm Claire Rodgers and I'm a member of the multidisciplinary engineering department at Texas A&M University.

Engineering is interdisciplinary by nature and the degree programs of the Department of multidisciplinary engineering showcase this belief, developed specifically for students who want to explore emerging trends and technologies. The various degree programs we offer empower students to develop their own degree plan, if they choose, or to select one of our pre approved tracks. The interdisciplinary degree program is available at the College Station, Galveston and McAllen campuses. Available specializations include advanced manufacturing, hardware control systems, cybersecurity, architectural engineering, engineering and public health systems, engineering law, subsea engineering, and engineering for planetary science and exploration. As an engineer in a rapidly changing society, the sky isn't even the limit to where your imagination may lead.

What's so exciting is that it's still such a very new program and system. So inevitably, there will be a lot of growth and kind of you know how it's done and in the awareness of it. But each new student that joins the college is another chance to create a different degree, a differen experience. The more traditiona degrees and routes will alway be there, which I think i important. But for students wh don't feel like their goals fi perfectly into those traditiona routes. Multidisciplinar engineering is kind of this ne avenue for them. It was for me at least. It pushes student' creativity and critical thinki g in an area that we usually don t ever give much thought to ind of picking classes. So ha ing the freedom to start rom scratch also forces yo to really consider why yo're choosing those classes and ind of the pros and cons of each one and instead of having it kin of laid out for you and only making a couple decisions thro ghout your career. So I thin as multidisciplinary grow, it could really have a big mpact on how engineering is taug t overall.
